From a sealed can to a scheduled meal—without opening or portioning wet food by hand.
Most automatic cat feeders can deliver food on a schedule. But with canned wet food, there's an extra step: someone still has to open the can.
That's easy when you're home. It's less convenient when you're at work, running errands, or away for the weekend.
An automatic can-opening cat feeder is designed to handle that step for you. Instead of requiring you to open cans and fill feeding trays ahead of time, it stores compatible unopened cans, opens one at a scheduled mealtime, and presents the food to your cat.
The KittyBOT Automatic Can-Opening Wet Food Feeder takes that process a step further. It serves wet food directly from the original can and collects the used can after the feeding period.
Here's how it works.
Start by placing up to eight compatible 3 oz (85 g) cans of wet cat food into KittyBOT's storage compartment.
There's no need to open the cans, scoop out the food, or divide it into individual feeding trays.
Each can stays in its original factory-sealed packaging until its scheduled feeding time.
KittyBOT is designed for verified compatible, commercially available 3 oz round cans—not a proprietary canned-food subscription.
The first-generation feeder uses cans approximately 2.68 inches (68 mm) in diameter and 1.38 inches (35 mm) tall. Because can rims, lids, and dimensions vary between products, not every can labeled 3 oz will necessarily fit.
The advantage is simple: you can prepare several wet-food meals without preparing the food itself.
Once the cans are loaded, use the KittyBOT companion app to choose your cat's feeding times.
For example, you might schedule a meal at 7:00 a.m. before work and another at 6:00 p.m. when your cat normally eats dinner.
KittyBOT is designed to serve one 3 oz can per scheduled meal.
The app also provides:
Meal Schedule: Set and manage feeding times.
Feed Now: Request an additional meal when needed.
Cans Left: Check remaining can inventory when available.
Feeding History: Review recorded meal events.
Device Status: See when the feeder needs attention.
Once a schedule has been synchronized to the feeder, KittyBOT is designed to follow it locally, even if the internet connection is temporarily interrupted. Remote app features may be unavailable while the device is offline.
There's also a physical FEED button for serving a can without using the app.
Whether you're home or out for the day, your cat's feeding routine doesn't have to depend on you being there to open a can.
This is what makes a can-opening feeder different from a conventional automatic wet-food feeder.
At the scheduled time, KittyBOT selects a can from its storage compartment and moves it into an enclosed can-opening area.
Inside the machine, the opening mechanism cuts around the lid and lifts it away from the can.
Your cat never needs to interact with the can opener. The cutting process takes place inside the feeder, away from the accessible feeding area.
KittyBOT is also designed with safety interlocks and pet-detection sensors that pause or prevent relevant mechanical movements when unsafe conditions are detected.
Once the lid has been removed, the feeder moves the opened can into position for your cat's meal.
The food remains in its original container throughout the process.
Here's another important part of KittyBOT's design: it doesn't pour wet food into a separate bowl.
Instead, the opened 3 oz can is presented directly at the feeding station, allowing your cat to enjoy its meal from the original container.
It's a simpler approach to wet-food feeding, but it naturally raises a few questions: Is the can's metal edge safe? Can cats reach the food at the bottom? And what about whisker fatigue?
Eating directly from a can raises an understandable concern: Could the metal edge scratch or cut my cat's mouth?
KittyBOT addresses this with a protective cover positioned over the can's rim at the feeding station.
The cover shields the exposed metal edge while leaving the food accessible. As your cat eats, it helps prevent direct contact between your cat's mouth or face and the can's metal rim.
This protective cover is separate from the original metal lid, which KittyBOT removes inside the enclosed opening mechanism before serving the meal.
Your cat gets direct access to the wet food—not the exposed metal edge.
A small can might seem difficult to eat from, especially when there's food left at the bottom. But cats don't eat the same way humans do.
According to the Encyclopedia of Feline Clinical Nutrition, available through the International Veterinary Information Service (IVIS), a cat's tongue plays an important role in eating canned food. Its textured surface helps pick up soft food and small pieces of meat.
In other words, cats don't necessarily need their wet food spread across a flat plate to eat it.
We've observed this firsthand with cats eating from 3 oz cans. Many willingly eat directly from the container, including food near the bottom, and some finish the entire serving.
Of course, individual eating habits vary. Not every cat will finish every meal, whether food is served in a can or a bowl.

Some cat owners worry that eating from a narrow container could make their cat uncomfortable because its whiskers touch the sides.
It's a reasonable concern, but the science is less clear than many online claims suggest.
A study published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery enrolled 40 cats to compare regular dishes with specially designed whisker-friendly dishes. Researchers found no significant improvement in food consumption or eating time with the whisker-friendly dishes, although some cats showed a preference for them.
The study involved dry food rather than wet food served directly from cans, so it doesn't establish that every cat will be comfortable with every container.
KittyBOT's feeding area features an outward-flared design intended to reduce unnecessary whisker contact, while the protective rim cover shields the can's exposed metal edge.
The goal is to let cats eat naturally and comfortably without adding unnecessary food-transfer steps.
As with any feeding setup, your own cat's behavior is the best guide. If your cat consistently avoids the container or struggles to reach its food, a different feeding arrangement may be more suitable.
Not all canned wet foods have the same texture.
Some contain soft chunks in gravy, while others are dense pâtés that hold their shape even when the can is turned upside down.
For direct-from-can feeding, KittyBOT recommends starting with soft, moisture-rich wet food that's easy for your cat to lick and pick up.
As a practical guide, you can look for foods with a labeled maximum moisture content of around 80% or higher, particularly recipes with a soft texture or gravy. Keep in mind that "80% moisture max" on a U.S. pet food label indicates an upper limit, not the food's exact water content. It isn't a scientific threshold for whether a cat can eat from a can.
Cornell University's Feline Health Center notes that canned cat food generally contains at least 75% moisture and is highly palatable to many cats.
Ultimately, texture and your cat's individual preferences matter more than any single moisture percentage.

For many cats, a 3 oz (85 g) can can be a convenient meal-sized portion.
But there's no universal serving size for every cat.
A cat's nutritional needs depend on age, weight, activity level, and the calories in the food. Some adult cats may eat one 3 oz can as a meal, while others may need more or less.
KittyBOT serves one compatible 3 oz can per scheduled meal, making it easy to establish a consistent feeding routine.
Check the food's calories per can and your cat's daily nutritional needs to determine the right number of meals.

If you've ever tried to shake a firm pâté out of a can, you know it doesn't always come out neatly.
Some wet foods cling to the sides or bottom. Foods with gravy can leave liquid behind during transfer, and firmer pâtés may need to be scooped out manually.
KittyBOT avoids that extra transfer step by serving the food in its original container.
That means:
No extra feeding bowl: Each scheduled meal is served directly from its original can.
No scooping or pouring: The food doesn't need to be transferred into another container.
Less food handling: Fewer surfaces come into contact with the wet food.
Less transfer mess: No need to shake, scrape, or pour food through the machine.
Fewer dishes to wash: No separate bowl is required for every scheduled meal.
The can is presented at a feeding height of approximately 4.7 inches (120 mm) above the floor.
For households already feeding their cats canned wet food, KittyBOT keeps the familiar meal while removing much of the preparation and cleanup involved in scheduled feeding.
A freshly opened can, served at mealtime—without the extra bowl.
After the scheduled feeding period, KittyBOT handles the used can, too.
The feeder uses a configurable Meal Window to determine how long the current meal is available.
When that period ends, KittyBOT checks whether your cat is still in the feeding area. If your cat is there, the collection movement waits until the area is clear.
The machine then moves the used can back inside, brings the removed lid back together with the can, and transfers both into a separate collection compartment.
That compartment can be removed and emptied during routine cleaning.
You don't need to pick up each used can immediately after a meal.
One distinction is worth noting: KittyBOT doesn't measure exactly how much food your cat has eaten. A used can may still contain leftovers, so it's important to choose appropriate portions and feeding periods.
And because KittyBOT doesn't refrigerate opened food, the Meal Window should be set according to the food manufacturer's handling guidance—not treated as a guarantee that wet food can safely sit out for any particular length of time.
Traditional timed wet-food feeders typically require you to open the food and place portions into compartments before leaving. Some use cooling systems to hold those prepared meals.
An automatic can-opening feeder takes a different approach.
The food stays in the unopened can until it's time to eat.
KittyBOT is built around five straightforward actions:
Load → Schedule → Open → Serve → Collect
That means less advance preparation, fewer food-transfer steps, and a more convenient way to maintain a wet-food routine when you're not home.
It doesn't eliminate every feeding responsibility. You'll still need to refill the feeder, check your cat's food intake, and clean the appropriate parts.
But you won't need to open and portion every scheduled can in advance.
Yes. A true automatic can-opening wet food feeder is designed to open compatible sealed cans at scheduled mealtimes. KittyBOT uses an internal opening mechanism to remove the lid before presenting the meal, without requiring someone to open the can manually.
KittyBOT is designed for verified compatible, commercially available 3 oz (85 g) round cans. It does not require proprietary canned food. However, compatibility depends on the actual can dimensions and lid construction, not just the weight printed on the label. A verified compatibility list will be provided before launch.
KittyBOT holds up to eight compatible cans and serves one can per meal. That's a maximum of eight canned wet-food meals before refilling. How long they last depends on your cat's feeding schedule.
No. KittyBOT stores compatible unopened, shelf-stable cans in their original sealed packaging and opens them at mealtime. It does not actively refrigerate the cans or cool food after opening.
No. KittyBOT removes the lid and presents the original can at the feeding station. This eliminates the need to transfer each scheduled serving into another bowl.
When the configured feeding period ends and the feeding area is clear, KittyBOT collects the used can and lid in a removable compartment. It does not need to determine that your cat has eaten every bite before starting collection.
KittyBOT supports a compatible external 5V USB Type-C power bank as a backup power source. It does not have a built-in battery. Backup operation depends on having a suitable power bank connected with enough remaining charge.
Feeding your cat wet food shouldn't always require you to be standing in the kitchen with a can opener.
KittyBOT is designed to take care of the repetitive steps: keeping compatible cans sealed until mealtime, opening and serving the food on schedule, and collecting the used cans afterward.
You choose the food and the feeding routine. KittyBOT handles the scheduled can-opening process.
